DANVILLE - If color has the power to lift our moods, brighten the day even in the grayest of weather, then the paintings by Walnut Creek artist Tayla Jackson should be hanging on walls everywhere. Using simple lines and abstract designs, Jackson's canvasses are overflowing with joy. In her painting "Red Chair", the colors seem to pulse with energy while at the same time a seemingly simple outline of a woman reclining lends a sense of peace to the painting. One glance and the viewer is reminded of other abstract painters, Picasso in particular. However Jackson brings her own voice to the talented chorus.
"I intentionally draw people as "blue" or "pink" so that race is not the focal point,” says Jackson of her whimsical oils and pastels. She is instead focused on the human spirit in all its rainbow hues. And Jackson, who has a background in graphic design, also understands that not everyone is in the market for a painting so she has created a line of note cards as well, a way to acquire a bit of the colorful energy she has created and share it with friends and family.
Tayla Jackson will be one of many artists bringing their work to the Danville Fine Arts Faire in downtown Danville June 23 & 24, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Come out and meet the artist who brings color and joy to everything she does.

Talya Jackson knows what a difference five years makes. "I was in a very bad place in life and, as a release, I started drawing," Jackson recalled. Not letting a lack of art background deter her, she began doodling. From there, she started drawing trees. "Trees represent spiritual growth -- ever-changing, ever-evolving -- like I was," said the Walnut Creek resident.
Allowing her intuition to be her guide, Jackson, 39, taught herself how to use oil pastels. Soon, she created whimsical images and figures inspired by her passion for color. When people started noticing her unique drawings, they suggested she do something about her newfound talent. So she began producing her own line of greeting cards featuring her drawings which have been embellished with an oil-based medium. Original drawings are scanned and sent to a printer for quality resolution reprints. Beyond the art adorning the cards themselves is the mission ...
